Chicago Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

The turkey was awesome. We did it en papillote. The gravy was salty. The pies were straight-up amazing. All in all, a good thanksgiving.

Silly Recipe

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

I had an abundance of leeks from “the farm”, and we have this great cookbook by Molly Katzen –The Vegetable Dishes I can’t Live Without.  Did I *really* need a printed recipe to accomplish this appetizer?  Sliced leeks with a bit of olive oil, baked in a 275 degree oven for more than an hour.  Huh?

So…tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and lots of this family will be at various locations for their meal.  I know that I will be taking pictures of Aunt Lynn’s gathering and food and posting them when I get home.  Can I encourage Clay, Adam, Bryce and Nathan to do the same?

Note to Clay:  at one time the “poster’s” name was listed at the top of the post(like you have at the top of each of your posts at exitcreative). Can we get that on Today In… again?

D-Day.

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Would it be possible to have D-Day (Doughnut Day) before the 25th or after the 28th? If not that’s alright, but Bryce & I will be visiting family in Santa Rosa.

Just Couldn’t Help It

Portillo’s — Italian Beef Sandwich and a Chicago Dog.   We didn’t get to go to Milwaukee because Clay had to go to a meeting here in Chicago.  I went to the Vale Craft Gallery, and Durry to the Newberry Library.  THEN…we went to the Garfield Park Conservatory — the world’s(?) largest.  Amazing.  Anyone who lives in Chicago who hasn’t been there…MUST go.

Bubbling Brew

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Very moist dough for “pizza bianca”…..a very chewy flatbread from Cook’s Illustrated.  The dough will be baked with a rosemary, salt, and thinnly sliced red onions on top.  This creatiion is going to the farm for the end-of-the-season potluck.

Peach Blueberry Muffins

I’m not sure how more “Mama Hill” I can get between planting flowers, making jam, baking muffins and sewing (cheesecloth), but at least I was productive this weekend. And man, were those muffins good smothered with homemade jam warm out of the oven! =]
