My New Fun - Yarn Dyeing

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Wool yarn dyed with koolaid. Koolaid contains a lot of citric acid. With the addition of vinegar and “cooking” in the microwave, the color is permanent. LemonLime, Lemonade, and LemonLime with a touch of BerryBlue and Orange to tone down the bright green.

Completed skein. Enough yarn for a hat or a scarf.

The process from start to completion:

Grape Kool-aid has been applied to wet yarn. A heavy concentration on the right, less Kool-aid on the left.

Yarn has been microwaved and rinsed.

The completed socks for Hillary. I only had one skein of this yarn, therefore, they are shorty socks!

All good, Carolyn

The broken pieces glued back together perfectly. The veneers make it really stiff, and whole thing is super light. Much lighter than the earlier paddles. Should play very well.
