Statistics from the last month

So on Sunday Adam updated his blog with the new sunset piece.

Yesterday I added it to NOTCOT, a trendwatching site.

Later on that day it got picked up by the following sites:

All in all, this brought his site more traffic in 4 days than my site got all last month. Way to go, Adam. People love that piece!

Art in the Garden

Art in the Garden

This afternoon Durry and I attended an “art event” for the Redwood Arts Association.  Twenty-eight plein air artists were set up in the LARGE  Wells garden out in Bayside.  The garden was certainly past it’s summer prime, but it was still quite a setting for the painters.  There are so many trees and large bushes and winding paths that they were all able to tuck their easels into spaces out of the view of others.  Included in the afternoon was a mini-lecture on plein air painting (French for out in the open air).  I didn’t feel like I could  take any pictures of what the artists were creating, but I did LOVE this box of pastels.  Art in a box…..the woman told me that she tried once to organize her pastels by color, but after about two weeks she gave up and just kept the chalk in value order.

American Quilter\'s Society Nashville Show - August 2008

The Ultimate Quilt Guild Challenge Honorable Mention. So as a group, we came in “4th” out of the 17 guilds that were juried into the show.  We don’t know how many guilds actually entered.   Mine is the 4th quilt from the left — titled: “8/28/07, 8:28pm”

Rose Collaboration

Rose Collaboration

I have now put all four sections together, and then added some extensions to the rose petals so they would flow into the border.   My original section is the top left quadrant.  Soon I will had lots of quilting attempting to pull the sets into a greater whole.   The original photograph is on the left.

Group Quilt Project

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Three other friends and I started a “fractured” quilt project. We were each to interpret a picture of a rose. The picture was divided into four quadrants. The picture on the left is my four sections. I then kept one of the sections (the top left quadrant), and then received three new sections (above right). I will sew my four new segments together, then layer them with batting and do whatever quilting I want to do. We are now supposed to have our quilt done by December or January to share with each other, and the guild.

With All Good Intentions

We set out to take a nice walk up Trinidad Head.  The sun was out, there was no wind.  We had just had a nice phone conversation with Clay.  All was right in the world…..

Who’s taking a walk now?

So we walked on the beach to observe nature’s art.

There is something very pacific about the Pacific.

Nat’l Quilt Show Contestants

(Loren Justice, Gerry Smeltzer, dp, Edith harmer, Molly Miles and Pat Durbin)

My quilt guild in Eureka has had a group of quilts juried into the national show in Nashville this August.  We entered a group of eight quilts in “The Ultimate Quilt Guild Challenge”.  We were one of the ten groups in the country to be selected as semi-finalists and to possibly win one of the three monetary awards.  Our guild challenge was to individually create a quilt with the theme: A Peak into the Forest.   My quilt was created with hand-dyed fabric and photo-transfered images.  This is what “my forest” looks like at sunset at the end of the summer.

So we have sent eight quilts off for judging, and we hope that we can win some of the prize money for the guild.
