Windy Ride

Sunflowers at the end of August

Sunflowers at the end of August

I saw Lynn as I started my ride this morning. We discussed that the wind was going to be out in full force today. I was on my way north, the air was calm, and it looked like I’d have a easy 11 miles north and that I’d probably be able to sail back. As soon as I got to the top of the Hammond bridge the wind picked up, and the peddling was SLOW. When I was facing into the wind at Clam Beach I wondered about turning around; after all, no one was going to report me to the Sunday Morning Ride Police. But I had committed, so I continued. It took 79 minutes to ride to the Crannel Road turnaround. And, as Lynn predicted, I sailed home in 60 minutes. On a normal Sunday the round trip takes 135 minutes, so the wind coming and going just pretty much evened things out.

These hay bales are in the bottoms just west of Mad River Hospital. This morning’s wind had its effect on the plastic. All in all, think about all the evacuees along the gulf coast. This wind is nothing.

Clay — I encountered issues when trying to post

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

I tried four times to put up two pictures with one post. Everything looked fine, but when I clicked to publish I got the caption of one picture on the other picture and only one photo.  When I went to “view site” all the left hand margin information was gone.  Give it a try and tell me what I did wrong.

Art in the Garden

Art in the Garden

This afternoon Durry and I attended an “art event” for the Redwood Arts Association.  Twenty-eight plein air artists were set up in the LARGE  Wells garden out in Bayside.  The garden was certainly past it’s summer prime, but it was still quite a setting for the painters.  There are so many trees and large bushes and winding paths that they were all able to tuck their easels into spaces out of the view of others.  Included in the afternoon was a mini-lecture on plein air painting (French for out in the open air).  I didn’t feel like I could  take any pictures of what the artists were creating, but I did LOVE this box of pastels.  Art in a box…..the woman told me that she tried once to organize her pastels by color, but after about two weeks she gave up and just kept the chalk in value order.

The Ultimate Quilt Guild Challenge Honorable Mention. So as a group, we came in “4th” out of the 17 guilds that were juried into the show.  We don’t know how many guilds actually entered.   Mine is the 4th quilt from the left — titled: “8/28/07, 8:28pm”

Rose Collaboration

Rose Collaboration

I have now put all four sections together, and then added some extensions to the rose petals so they would flow into the border.   My original section is the top left quadrant.  Soon I will had lots of quilting attempting to pull the sets into a greater whole.   The original photograph is on the left.

Fixing my bike

Fixing my bike.

Fixing my bike.

I’m doing a triathlon in a few weeks. Due to one third of the race being on a bike, I needed to fix mine. I had 4 broken spokes on my back wheel (I’m a big boy) and some serious wobble in the front. A local bike shop hooked me up with 4 new spokes and a new rim strip for free! Now I’m back in business. Thanks, uncles, for teaching me how to true wheels.

Go here to see my progress…
