The turkey was awesome. We did it en papillote. The gravy was salty. The pies were straight-up amazing. All in all, a good thanksgiving.
Just Out of the Oven
November 27th, 2008 by Donna ParkerSilly Recipe
November 26th, 2008 by Donna ParkerI had an abundance of leeks from “the farm”, and we have this great cookbook by Molly Katzen –The Vegetable Dishes I can’t Live Without. Did I *really* need a printed recipe to accomplish this appetizer? Sliced leeks with a bit of olive oil, baked in a 275 degree oven for more than an hour. Huh?
So…tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and lots of this family will be at various locations for their meal. I know that I will be taking pictures of Aunt Lynn’s gathering and food and posting them when I get home. Can I encourage Clay, Adam, Bryce and Nathan to do the same?
Note to Clay: at one time the “poster’s” name was listed at the top of the post(like you have at the top of each of your posts at exitcreative). Can we get that on Today In… again?
Bike-related Web Idea
November 22nd, 2008 by Clay Parker JonesSo as I was walking home the other day, I had an idea for a new way to do bike store websites.
By and large, local bike shops don’t do a good job online, mostly because it (1) seems expensive and (2) seems unnecessary. That’s mostly right. Bike stores don’t need a catalog, because you can pretty much order whatever the customers want. And there’s no need for e-commerce, because other, bigger companies can do it better.
But the great thing about the web is that it can connect people and help you build offline (real) communities. And thinking about the group-ride “thing” that lots of good bike shops do led me to this idea: nextride. Basically any shop could create a site for free (because we’re nice guys and we like bike shops) that would make it SUPER SIMPLE to tell your people when the next group ride would be. You’d get a site called “lifecycle.nxtrd.com”, and people could sign up for notifications and all that, just like with Today In. And it would have your address, number, and the brands you feature.
Thoughts?

Hitchhiker Splint :=(
November 19th, 2008 by Donna ParkerThe hospital techs refer to this as a “hitchhiker splint”. In our four hours in the ER Monday night when we heard this term bantered about we invisioned one of those metal finger braces wrapped in a simple bandage. But no. A bad cut and a broken thumb is considered quite serious and deserves the full-monty of a wrap. And for those readers who haven’t heard of Uncle Durry’s wood-working accident, this is the result. He was cutting some beautiful maple for a new end table, and a two-by-two piece of wood kicked back, and the force of it cut his thumb open, nicked a tendon and broke the bone. Ouch. We get to go see someone today to have it checked, so I can then get a good gory picture. It’s always a small world out in Arcata. Durry’s Physician’s Assistant, of course know’s the Parker’s. I was making conversation with her while she was sewing up the thumb and we somehow started talking about Life Cycle. And when I started mentioning names….Lynn, Vince Dave…….the first word out of her mouth was: Hillary. Apparently, the P.A., Celine knows the Parker’s because she works with a mid-wife that was a neighbor on Lincoln Street. Celine did ask if any of us drink Odwalla juice.
